Re:
The Long Tail...

Subject: A Important Letter From Mike Filsaime
Dear friend,
I want to get into
The Long Tail, but first I want to discuss something that will
tie into it later...
Part 1 -Product Launch Overdose?
I am
wondering if you have noticed something recently in our industry...
The 'Product
Launch'
Phenomena...
Has it made you sick?
Perhaps a bit cynical? Maybe a bit jaded?
Good question!
This is what I have
been asking myself. Another better question is.. What is the cause?
Or even better... How does it affect you?
The cause:
It is part of the
evolution of our marketplace. Recently, with the success of
Jeff Walkers 'Product Launch Formula', we have seen many
people, myself included, have great success with their new
information products.
Some others have simply
tried, with a less effect, to reverse engineer Jeff's strategy for
their own launches, while still having moderate success. Perhaps not
as good and leaving thousands on the table if they were a student of
the course... But success none the less.
How does
it affect you?
Before you allow
yourself to become sick, cynical, or even jaded... I would advise
that you choose to respond in the opposite manner.
Let's face it, we are
all internet marketers in one way or another. We must not let
ourselves become hypocrites. What we see is very transparent to us.
And regardless of what you feel anyone's agenda is, whether it be
the marketer or the affiliates, most likely it is something that you
have participated in, or would like to participate in sometime in
the future.
So with all the
launches going on, I suggest you embrace it. Study the
process as you see it. Learn from it. Apply the successful
strategies you learn for your own current or future projects.
Last week I spoke of
the importance of having a vision. And by doing so, you can evaluate
opportunities better by asking yourself if the if the current
proposition compliments your vision or is a distraction to your
vision.
Yes... Opportunities
can be a distraction!
Conversely, when
you have a vision, you can choose for yourself if the opportunity
will work in your favor if you decide to act on it.
The important thing now
becomes clear. The product launches that you see now become
'choices' that you can decide for yourself if they can help you.
So now, you can be in a
better position to welcome the information that is offered to you.
Ultimately, you have a choice- and that is a good thing!
In fact, if you think
October was bad for Internet Marketing, I would ask you now to
rethink, or reframe your position of the subject... Here is why...
There is No Sign of it Stopping...
You see, we
are evolving. By 'we', I mean Internet Marketers. More and more of
us are starting to have success.
Think about
it this way, if there were just 52 internet Marketers with success,
and each person was launching just One product per year, we would
then see a new product launch every single week!
The hard
reality is, there are many more that 52... and many will launch
more than one new product in this "How To" niche per year. So if
just 300 people are launching 2 new products each year, you can now
see that we will see as many as 10 or more new product launches
coming out each week!
I am fairly
well connected with not only the popular marketers, but with my own
members that propose JV's for new products. I see 3 new JV request
per day!
Now,
although Jeff Walker's strategies are incredible, I think we will
see an 'adjustment' to the process just as we have seen adjustments
in other marketplaces like the Stock Market, or entertainment
industries.
In order to
stand out from the crowd, all of us will have to think 'Bigger,
Better, Stronger, and Faster' when we think of new ways to bring our
products to the market... Especially in the IM industry.
And for
those of you that are marketing the 'Niches', and think that you will
not have a product in the "How To" industry, you may find yourself
thinking differently when you do have success. As one of my friends
and mentors John Childers likes to say...
It is
NOT a Choice...
What John
Childers means by that is, you do not have to choose between
being a specialist in a 'Niche' and teaching people how to do what
you do.
You can
do both!
So if you
make $100,000 per year selling information products in niches like
"How to eat healthy with organic foods.", you may find that you will
have people knocking down your door begging you to teach them how to
do the same. And perhaps you will make $200,000 per year teaching
and helping others.
Ouch!
You are now a "Guru" - That is not a bad thing.
Remember, you do not have to give up your $100,000 income streams...
You can do both and enjoy the profits while helping people in both
niches.
(Side Note: have
you ever seen the word 'Guru' not used in quotes? I have not.
People put a label on people. And many times the word 'Guru' is
positioned as a bad thing. 'Guru' means teacher or expert. And
generally it is stated in a derogatory meaner, placed in quotes,
implying mean 'So Called', usually by someone that begrudges
someone else for having what they, too, also want. Blaming others
for their lack of success, making it appear that they are being
exploited. All the while they would love to have the same success.
Perhaps dropping the hypocritical ego could help remove the 'Them
against Us' conflict resulting in greater success. - End Side
Note)
I will get
back to the subject at hand in a moment, but now I would like to
talk to you about...
Part 2 -The Long
Tail
... and how
it affects your future online!
Recently, I
just finished reading the most timely and relevant print book
related to our industry...
"The Long Tail: Why
the future of our business is selling less of more" - by
Chris Anderson -
The CEO
of Google is quoted as stating:
"Anderson's insights influence Google's strategic thinking is a
profound way."
The book is
a must read for every single Internet Marketer or business person.
It talks about why the future millionaires will be the people that
market to the 'Niches' and how the days of the "Top Ten Hits" are
dwindling away as consumers are no long 'Told' what to buy based on
pop culture icons. Rather, consumers are now creating their own
media and are in total control of instantly getting exactly what it
is they want.
In the
book, Chris Anderson reveals...
...Some
Shocking Facts, Statistics and Data.
The future
buyers.. Today's teens, watch an average of only 2 Hours of TV
per week!
Even the
average American (the largest retail market) is watching record
setting lows of TV each week.
So where
did everyone go?
People
today, now get their media from the Broadband laptops and PC's,
their cell phones, their PDA's, IPOD's, satellite radio etc...
All of
these deliver choices to us in the tens of thousands of Niches and
sub Niches.
The result,
the death of the Top Ten, and the introduction of "The
Long Tail" of custom on demand personal media.
Chris
Anderson goes on to explain how in the 1954, 74% of Americans
were watching "I Love Lucy." - While today, the Top
Rated TV show is only seen by 15% of Americans.
In fact,
Today's No. 1 show would not even appear in the Top 10 in the 1970's
ratings.
And with
the new MP3 Music sites like Rhapsody.com and Itunes.com, the music
industry is seeing the effect of the Long Tail. Consumers are
building their own personal 'Niche' library of songs and the top
selling albums are dieing in sales to tightly carved out niches of
music.
Look at
this statistic... The last Blockbuster Record Album was NSYNC's "No Strings
Attached" in the year 2000. And it is likely that their album
sales of 2.4 Million in one week will never be broken again - ever.
In fact the
trend is falling fast... In 2000, the Top 5 albums- Also including
megahits by Britney Spears and Eminem, sold a combined 38
Million copies. However, in 2005 the Top 5 sold just half of
that of 2000; only 19.7 millions.
Even George
Lucas of Star Wars was spoke in a recent issue of Variety
Magazine as follows...
George
Lucas has a message for studios that are
cutting their
slates and shifting toward big-budget tentpoles and
franchises:
|
"You've got it all wrong."
The creator of "Star
Wars," which stamped the template for the franchise-tentpole
film, says many small films and Web distribution are the
future.
And
in case anyone doubts he means it, Lucasfilm is getting out of
the [theatrical-release] movie biz.
"We don't want to make
movies. We're about to get into television. As far as
Lucasfilm is concerned, we've moved away from the feature film
thing because it's too expensive and it's too risky.
Spending $100 million
on production costs and another $100 million on P&A makes no
sense. For that same $200 million, I can make 50-60
two-hour movies. That's 120 hours as opposed to two hours. In
the future market, that's where it's going to land, because
it's going to be all pay-per-view and downloadable."

Here
are some more interesting stats:
-
Hollywood box office fell 7% and has been declining each year
since 2001
-
Newspaper
readership (which peaked in 1987) fell by 3%, the largest drop
since the 1960's
-
Magazine newsstands are at their lowest levels since statistics
have been keep for more that 30 years
-
TV
ratings continue to fall - Down 30% from last year. Since 1985,
the networks are losing there markets to the 1000+ Niche
cable/satellite channels
-
2005
MLB World Series was the lowest TV ratings of all time
-
The 2005
NBA ratings were at a record low for veiws.
-
The
2006 Grammy Awards dropped 10% in One year.
-
The 2006
Winter Olympics had its lowest ratings in 20 years (after seeing
the Highest rating at its peak in 1994 - The start of the Internet
in public expansion.)
-
Radio
listenership dropped to a 7 year low down an average of 23 Hours
less per week listening to the radio.
-
In 2005,
an average of 1 US radio station went out of business each week.
The highest rate ever since the advent of radio
Bad for
Mass Media, Good For You and Me...
As you now
see, "The Long Tail" is killing the big media giants. But the Niches
are thriving. I will spare you the stats of the success of
Itunes.com and other Amazon.com as they sell more products in
ranked 50-5000 than then do in the Top 50.
But what I
want to point out is their is a clear conclusion:
Those, like
you and me, that take advantage now, can make our living, even
Millions of dollars in the years to come in these Niche Markets.
Now, I want
to tie in both parts here for you because...
Timing
is Everything...
As you may
have heard, yet another 'Product Launch' was released today as I
write this letter to you.
Remember
when I said to embrace this, because it gives you a choice to see
what opportunities can compliment your visions?
Well, I
think that you now see that your vision should be based around
profits in the Long Tail of Niches on the internet.
But I do
not want this product launch to get...
...Lost
in the Noise of "Launches of the Week"
Here is
why. Ken McArthur has put together the most timely course on
Niche Marketing that ties directly into the future Millionaires of
"The Long Tail."
Ken has
just released the largest home study course ever produced in
Internet Marketing that I am aware of. In fact, it is the most
comprehensive course of it's kind ever featured with over 10 modules
and 50 experts on the subject of Information Products.
The course
not only outlines in reality TV fashion, "the making of an
information product", but it also teaches you step-by-step
how to do market research, product creation, product marketing, and
everything else you would ever need to succeed online.
I will let
his sales letter give you the details, but since I was part of the
course, and also worked behind the scenes advising Ken on the
product, I have had the opportunity to see this product before
anyone else and by doing so, I give it one of my highest
endorsements ever!
Here is
what I am asking you to consider, if what I outlined here in the
Long Tail report resonates with you and helps you to define your
visions, then I whole heartedly encourage you to own this package
and profit from it.
Ken has
made it available to you for only 4 payments of $397. Against
my recommendation, based on the value of the course, he did not sell
it for 4 payments of $1497. I am sure this will cost him in profits
as the course is well worth that price, but Ken has made it
affordable for anyone who reads this report and understands that
success will come to those that market information products 'inside'
The Long Tail.
Since I
know that many people are going to read this today, and realize that
this course is exactly what is needed in our industry and could not
have come at a better time...
