Well, an update - two actually!!

After reading about this last year, I wrote just such a note for my phone. I lost my phone a couple months ago - left it on a shelf in a store actually ( I was looking at some things and set it down apparently). I was quite distressed because I had put the reward info on the phone, but no one called - until the next morning. We made arrangements to pick up the phone and the woman seemed excited to get the reward. When we showed up, however, she refused any money from me or my husband. Luckily I had made a special gift certificate for her for some dichroic glass jewelry I make, and she was happy to accept that (although she has not yet "cashed in" the certificate).

Last week I was a vendor at our local fish festival, and again I lost my phone. I retraced my steps to my vehicle and the grocery store I'd walked to, but couldn't find the phone! Luckily someone else did, though, and they called the number I had listed. My husband told the man that I was at the festival. As soon as he asked me if I was "Katie" I knew he had found my phone. He also refused the refund. .I insisted he pick out some jewelry, which he did for his wife. He said she would be very happy (and I certainly was!!).

This works, folks. And bless the honest people who simply returned my property. While I didn't want to have to pay the reward, I would have done so gladly. In my case, however, my jewelry sufficed.

Since the new iPhone 4 is now out, I have actually changed the message to simply say "reward" without a dollar amount.

Pretty awesome idea Mike! If I could tell you the amount of people I know who have lost their cell phones it would BLOW your mind! I made this fatal mistake one night and never found the phone. Maybe if I had some kind of reward message the person who found it might have returned it. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the great idea Mike, I just did the same to my and my wife's phone. (except with my information, of course.)
Hopefully it will never have to be used, but still good to have.

Great tale of positive karma, Mike.

And @CoachDeb - you're absolutely right. Mike's generosity is seen in so many ways among people he's had direct connections with. I know my own business would not be where it is without Mike's mentoring and the BFM software. And of course getting to work more closely as the BFM Workshop trainer this past spring has been a highlight of being in our industry.

Can't wait to see both of you (and the other 400+) on the marketers cruise again!

Very, very cool - the idea, the response, and the pre-as well as post-response actions on Mike's part. I'll be incorporating this idea myself. Definitely a great idea, and one to pass on to others! Thanks Mike
